Climate Data
The world climate data can be downloaded freely from http://www.diva-gis.org/climate, the worldclim data is available in two sets, that is current (1950-2000) and future (future predictions)., the spatial extent of this data is 10 minutes, 5 minutes and 2.5 minutes
Importing climate data onto DIVA-GIS platform
Before using the inbuilt climate data in DIVA-GIS, define the database in which the data is found by changing the options settings
Click on the Options and in the resulting window , chose the climate option and define the folder (\software\climate\diva_wc_ccm3_2-5m) in which the climate data is stored. The system will automatically read the other parameters of the climate data.
Adding Climate data to Map
Select the data menu and in the resulting drop down list, select climate and then choose map. It is important that you add a layer with the extents of you project area say generalised_borders.shp ( from \data_spatial\laketan\mapdata\political\vector\)
Select the output from the drop down list as below, and define the grid name for the particular dataset and apply. To limit the generation to the extents of a layer, then click Read from layer
Once all the climate variables have been generated then you CLOSE the dialogue box.
Generating the CLM files.
Select the Climate Tool from the Data menu and then select Make CLM
In the resulting dialogue box, browse to the directory where the generated climate was stored (\data_spatial\laketan\grid\climate\), click on one of the climate variables and the click on Files, if this is done properly, then the variables of Tmin, Tmax and Rain should be added in the column below the selected files as below. Then click Ok
To read the climate data within the extents of the map then Choose Climate from the Data menu and then point, and then click at within the map extents.
